Hide blueman-applet in Gnome Shell 2021-03-28 2021-05-09 [{tags [100daystooffload gnome]}]

In my previous post, I have described why I have installed XFCE alongside my daily driver, which currently is Gnome Shell. XFCE required me to install and run nm-applet and blueman-aplet during startup. Gnome Shell does not need these packages. Network and Bluetooth functionality is included.

The problem is that when blueman-applet is present within Gnome Shell and KStatusNotifierItem/AppIndicator Support is enabled, Bluetooth icon appears in the tray, which is undesirable.

To hide the Bluetooth icon from the tray, first copy the config file:

cp /etc/xdg/autostart/blueman.desktop ~/.config/autostart

Then insert NotShowIn=GNOME; into that file. Note that the setting appear to be case-sensitive, so make sure that the spelling is right.
